The Bible, open and available for everyone, appears on a table as central to our faith and as a resource for our understanding of the work of God in Christ. Calvin wrote: Scripture, gathering up the otherwise confused knowledge of God in our minds, having dispersed our dullness, clearly shows us the true God. The placement of the dove directly above the open Bible was intended to signify the important role of the Holy Spirit in both inspiring scripture and interpreting the words of scripture as God’s word to us. Unfortunately the Bible is probably the most unread of all the best sellers. Young people no longer know the stories of the Bible, and so have lost their biblical heritage, and often their biblical faith. It is my greatest joy to be able to introduce students to the message and power of this sacred work. |
