The highlighted area shows the cross of Christ, the most universal and ecumenical symbol of the Christian faith, which is shared by nearly all Christians. The cross embodies both the suffering of Christ and the triumph of God over sin and death. As St. Paul wrote:
Note that if one removes the dove from the seal, the Tau, or T, cross appears, which is the oldest known form of the cross and the one most closely associated with the crucifixion. |
