Nate Polich balances ambitious outdoor activities with trust in Jesus

Nate Polich was born in Jackson, Michigan and moved to Ann Arbor just before he started third grade. The following year his family (parents Jill and Rick and sister Megan) joined Westminster. Three years ago, Nate attended a work camp in Michigan and last year was on mission trips to California and the Dominican Republic.

He feels his faith is evolving and growing each year and has been greatly influenced by former youth leader Stephen Cant and Pastor Cathi King. Earlier this year Nate was in Westminster’s confirmation class. Nate will be a sophomore at Pioneer High in September.

One of Nate’s favorite activities is playing soccer. His interest started in kindergarten, and he now plays with the Ann Arbor United Soccer League. Nate also runs the 100 and 400 meter distances in track. His German teacher and soccer and track coach at Forsythe has invited him to help coach soccer next year at the middle school. For his junior and senior years in high school, Nate hopes to be on the Pioneer soccer team.

Nate has been active in Boy Scouts, and is presently a senior patrol leader. He is one rank away from starting to work on Eagle Scout rank. Scouting has brought many adventures and given him a love of hiking and cycling. He has hiked in Glacier National Park in Montana, in the Colorado Rockies, and on Isle Royale in Michigan. He also loves mountain climbing, and last year he participated in a 550-mile eight-day bicycle trip in Wisconsin (with one day off to enjoy the air show in Oshkosh). Nate’s Dad Rick is also an enthusiastic cyclist.

Other interests include snow skiing and snowboarding, and boating at the family cottage up north. Nate would like to learn wake boarding and water skiing. He also hopes to learn to fly, just like his father who pilots his own small plane. Nate plays the alto saxophone in band at Pioneer High School, and also plays guitar. He is considering a career in geological engineering.

A meaningful Bible passage for Nate is Matthew 6:25–34, in which Jesus tells us “Do not worry........”
