Our mission: Faithfully proclaiming the Word of God through symbolic and interpretive movement, leading believers and seekers in praise and worship of the Living Word, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.About sacred dance at WestminsterIn 1997, the sacred dance ministry at Westminster Presbyterian Church was established, introducing the congregation to a beautiful form of worship that seeks to glorify God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit through dance. What began as just one group of 5 dancers has grown over the years to 3 groups, with a total of 20 dancers. Sandra Jones serves as sacred dance director with Beca Torres-Kutkuhn and Angela Torres-Kutkuhn serving as associate directors. No previous dance experience is necessary to participate in our dance ministry. However we do ask that individuals seeking to join any of the dance groups prayerfully seek God’s guidance as to whether they are called to serve in the dance ministry. Individuals who believe they have been called are then asked (along with their parents) to show their commitment to the dance ministry by signing a Sacred Dance Covenant. September through May, dance groups meet weekly, with occasional extra rehearsals. While the majority of our rehearsal time is spent dancing, time is also spent in fellowship, prayer and Bible study as it relates to a particular dance. Each group learns four or five new dances each season and presents them at our celebration (blended), traditional and Good News at 6:00 (contemporary) services. A dance themed worship service is also presented at the end of the season. Three groups comprise our dance ministryStepping Stones 6th to 8th grades rehearsals Thurdays, 78:30 pm We’d love to have you dance with us! Our end-of-the-year dance themed worship service “I Will Give You Rest” on May 6, 2007, in which all dance groups participated, benefited Arbor Hospice, and was well-attended by many in the community. In February 2007, Stepping Stones and Word in Motion presented dances in the annual Gospelfest Music for Reconciliation, Inc., which included gospel choirs from Ann Arbor and Detroit. We also led a worship dance workshop at the Creative Arts Day Camp for children at the Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church in Detroit in July 2007. Dancers have participated in the Arbor Opera Theater’s production of Amahl and the Night Visitors. Dancers also had the opportunity to present a dance in worship during the church’s mission trip to the Reynosa, Mexico in 2005. In the past, the dance ministry has also participated in the Christian Dance Network’s wonderful annual February dance concert, which includes dance groups from all over southeastern Michigan and Ohio. It is our prayer that we will have even more opportunities to share the saving grace of Jesus Christ through Christian sacred dance. Videos
